Bio: Dr. Ziteng Wang is an associate professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Northern Illinois University. He received his doctoral and master’s degrees in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University, and his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tsinghua University, China. Before returning to academia, Dr. Wang worked for FedEx Express as a senior operations research analyst. In his academic role, Dr. Wang continues to work with Illinois-based industry partners in manufacturing, automobile, and transportation industries to improve their strategic planning and operational practices in human resources, manufacturing, distribution, and software systems. Dr. Wang’s research has been sponsored by multiple companies and state agencies including the Illinois Department of Transportation, Shield Illinois, Illinois Innovation Network, and Illinois Space Grant Consortium. Dr. Wang’s research interests lie in data analytics, optimization, transportation and logistics, process improvement, production scheduling, and computational algorithms for engineering applications. Dr. Wang’s research creates novel mechanisms for operations management, collaborative transportation solutions, cost-effective operations in production and service scheduling, supply chains, and for promotion of fairness in resource allocation. His research has been published in journals such as Naval Research Logistics, Transportation Research Part B, European Journal of Operational Research, and Annals of Data Science. He received the 2022 IISE best logistics and supply chain track paper award. Dr. Wang served as the president of INFORMS Chicago Chapter and a board member of the DAIS division of IISE. He is also the founding faculty advisor of INFORMS NIU Student Chapter. He currently serves on INFORMS subdivision council.
